Welcome to the Granholm Recall Exploratory Committee

The Recall Granholm Exploratory Committee is collecting the names and contact information of citizens who will commit to collecting signatures to recall Governor Granholm from office. No petitions will be circulated until enough citizens have made a commitment to the Governor’s recall.

Currently, there is no organized recall effort underway. Why?  Because recalling the Governor is a monumental task that would require many, many things to be in place well before any petitions are signed or circulated.

By waiting until enough citizens sign-up as volunteers and supporters, we help ensure that the recall effort can be successful collecting all the required signatures in the allowed 90 days.

So, is recalling Governor Granholm hopeless?

Maybe, but most political observers in California thought that recalling then-Governor Grey Davis was hopeless at first. Davis later became the fourth governor in U.S. history to be recalled from office.

How many signatures would we need to gather?

Over 955,000 valid signatures would have to be collected in just 90 days. Actually, a recall group would have to collect about 1.3 million signatures to ensure that 955,000 of them are from verified, registered voters.  To collect 1.3 million signatures in 90 days would require collecting 14,444 per day. 

That is a difficult, but not an impossible, figure once the recall effort is launched. 

How much would the recall campaign cost? 

Best estimates run anywhere between 1.1 million to 1.9 million.  Why so expensive? Any citizen-lead effort to recall the Governor will face heavy handed opposition from the same forces that supported her record-breaking tax increase. 

Raising enough money to recall the Governor is possible if enough frustrated citizens and businesses donate time and money.
